About Our Speaker
Sr. Brigid O'Shea Merriman, O.S.F.
Sister Brigid O'Shea Merriman is a Sylvania Franciscan and has been a professed member of her congregation for more than 40 years. Born of Irish parents in London, England, she came to the U.S. while still a child. She can tell many a tall tale, though those she relates in her presentations are true.
Brigid has served her congregation as a teacher for many years; her classroom experience ranges from elementary education to college and university levels. She thoroughly enjoys teaching and taught at Mount Angel Seminary in the Pacific Northwest for thirteen years, just prior to returning home to Sylvania, where she now serves as the congregation's Formation Minister.
She has a Ph.D. in Theology, which she earned from the Graduate Theological Union in 1989. She first began serving in retreat ministry and as a spiritual director in 1984, and has been engaged regularly in these ministries ever since.
An avid reader, Brigid also enjoys mystery, adventure stories, and biographies. Some people might call her a birdwatcher, though she thinks of herself more of a bird nurturer; she also has at least one green thumb and enjoys the beauties of nature firsthand.
