Science Lab Construction Underway |
Construction on the new Science Lab at Christ the King has begun! The Lathrop Company was awarded the contract to construct the lab designed by Coger-Shambarger Architects. Construction should be complete by the end of 2010.
Funding for the lab comes from three sources; the first source is the Christ the King Endowment. Years ago, when parishioners were asked to contribute to an endowment, one of the earmarked purposes for the endowment money was replacement of the CK school buses. At that time, CK had two buses and full ridership on both of them. Over the years, ridership decreased to the point that running and maintaining the buses was a losing proposition. Soon after, a science lab was identified as a priority and permission from the Endowment Committee was granted to re-purpose the money to this new priority.
The second source was the parish budget for 2010-2011. The budget, approved by the CK Finance Committee and the Diocese in May, 2010, included interest monies to be paid to the Diocese for the loan on the Valiton property. Subsequent to the budget being adopted, the Finance Committee decided to pay off the balance of the loan, thereby leaving the interest money for the science lab. The third source is an anonymous and very generous donor. For all three of these sources, we are very grateful.
Christ the King School has always enjoyed a favorable reputation in the community of Toledo, for being strong academically and forhaving the support of the families of the school and parish. That reputation no doubt is the reason that our enrollment increased from last year to this year. At this time, we have 516 students in preschool through grade eight, and having a science lab will surely help us prepare our students for the careers they will have some day.

Dance Uncorked 2010 Results |

On October 16, 2010 our very own pastor, Fr. Bill Rose, turned in a spectacular performance at the Catholic Charities fundraiser, Dance Uncorked. His efforts were awarded with the coveted first place mirror ball trophy. The event was fun for everyone in attendance and was able to raise in excess of $37,000 for the Catholic Charities of the Toledo Diocese. Click here to view a video of the award winning performance and click here to see pictures taken at the event. Fr. Bill would like to extend a special thank you to all who prayed for him during the preparations, were in attendance to lend moral support, as well as all the people who worked so hard planning this fun and elegant evening. If you wish you could have seen it in person, there is still another chance, next year Fr. Bill will repeat his performance as reigning champion, please e-mail

Our nation faces political challenges that demand urgent moral choices. We are a nation at war, with all of its human costs; a country often divided by race and ethnicity; a nation of immigrants struggling with immigration. We are an affluent society where too many live in poverty; part of a global community confronting terrorism and facing urgent threats to our environment; a culture built on families, where some now question the value of marriage and family life. We pride ourselves on supporting human rights, but we fail even to protect the fundamental right to life, especially for unborn children.
Catholic bishops seek to help Catholics form their consciences in accordance with the truth, so they can make sound moral choices in addressing these challenges. They do not tell Catholics how to vote. The responsibility to make political choices rests with each person and his or her properly formed conscience.
