Caregivers Retreat
Are you in a care-giving ministry or situation-personal or professional-that takes much of your time and energy? Are you looking after others in a care-giving situation? You need some respite yourself, some time to be good to yourself, a "getaway" weekend to experience some of the personal care you give to others. It is a chance to re-energize yourself and find the healing touch of God for yourself and your ministry.

Each year Manresa Jesuit Retreat House, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, sponsors a relaxing, restful, restorative weekend retreat specifically for men and women who are care givers-professionals like nurses and health care workers, or people who give home care for members of their own family or others free of charge. This weekend is designed to minister to you to allow you to be "receivers" of care, grace and spiritual nourishment. Come rest in the silence and solitude of Manresa's beautiful setting. Find nourishment and refreshment of mind, body, spirit this year. You will experience:

  • Presentations for quiet prayer
  • Experienced presenters in the field
  • Prayer with Scripture
  • Reflection and rest
  • Healing service
  • One-on-one conferences with Jesuits and female support staff
  • Time for mutual sharing

Set aside some time for your own healing and care. You may register for this retreat by calling 248-644-4933.

eXclaim is a wonderful opportunity for Christians of all ages to embrace and celebrate their faith with one another. Throughout the day participants can enjoy music from local and contemporary Christian music artists, compete in sports tournaments, browse booths from local Catholic ministries and area businesses, play on inflatable games and enjoy lunch.

The day culminates with a Celebration of the Eucharist at 7:00 pm. Clergy from across the diocese will concelebrate and liturgical music will be led by a large choir comprised of singers from area Catholic churches and a live contemporary band.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a great day of music with your entire family! The July 31st event will be held at the Monsignor Schmit CYO Athletic Complex located at 555 S. Holland-Sylvania Road Toledo, OH. Gates open at 12:00 pm and admission is FREE!

Clarification on Issues Surrounding Komen Decision

Catholic Conference of Ohio

At their meeting on January 20, 2011, the Bishops of Ohio discussed their respective positions on the participation of parishes and schools in the fundraising activities of Komen for the Cure.

The Bishops expressed strong, united support for research aimed at defeating breast cancer. However, some Catholic parishes and schools have inquired about lending institutional support to the fundraising efforts of Komen for the Cure. They raised concern about Komenʼs association with Planned Parenthood.'

Ohio Bishops on Fundraising for Susan G. Komen for the Cure

  • The direction given to Toledo diocesan Catholic institutions by Bishop Blair to channel their fundraising efforts to Mercy Cancer Centers, rather than Komen for the Cure (Komen) was the result of a collective decision made by all the bishops of Ohio. This includes the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Dioceses of Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, Steubenville and Youngstown. Earlier this year Archbishop Schnurr of Cincinnati took similar action to Bishop Blair's. For a statement from the Ohio Catholic Conference on this matter click here.
