Sunday, August 17 was a joyful day for Christ the King parish. The occasion was the formal installation, at the 10:00 Mass, of Fr. Bill Rose as our new pastor.
The ceremony was conducted by Father Michael Billian, Episcopal Vicar for the Diocese of Toledo. Our new Associate pastor, Father Dominic Savyo concelebrated.
The choir, making an early appearance for the occasion, sang beautifully and the large congregation responded with enthusiasm. Father Bill's sister-in-law and little niece (Abagail) brought up the Offertory gifts. Father Bill's homily, spiritually thought provoking with some humor in the opening which brought forth open laughter, was exactly what the people attending needed — and wanted — to hear.
A reception in Fr. Basil Goes Hall followed for several hundred people. As always, it was a delightful social gathering under Mary Noggle's supervision with fresh fruit, breakfast pastries, juice and coffee served. Everyone lined up to congratulate Fr. Bill as our new spiritual leader.
On leaving the hall, complimentary remarks on our new pastor were being exchanged as people walked out in the bright, sunny day.
Oh, lest I forget - Everyone admired the humility of Father Bill in admitting at the start of his homily, that Fr. Dominic beat him in the final round of their own Personal Olympic Contest at the parish festival. The game consisted of slamming a weight up a pole to make the bell at the top ring. Fr. Dominic accomplished it twice. Fr. Bill ...(sigh)...didn't make it at all. Fr. Dominic is now known (self proclaimed) As "The Champ."
