Christ the King will host a blood drive in the Basil Goes Activities Building on Saturday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The patients whose lives you may help save are depending on you to make an appointment to donate. Call Terry McKown at 419-475-4348, ext. 112.
Here is some Blood Fact Information
Blood cannot be manufactured; it can only come from generous blood donors. The average blood transfusion is 3.4 units of blood. The average adult has 10 - 12 units of blood. People are eligible to donate blood every 8 weeks. 97 % of the population will have received a blood transfusion by the age of 75, yet only 5 % of the population donates. You must be 17 years old or older to donate blood You will need to show ID when donating. The American Red Cross supplies approximately one-half of the nation's blood supply Enjoy the good feeling that comes with knowing that you may have saved as many as three lives from your one donation.
Before Donating
Get a good night's sleep Have a good breakfast or lunch about two hours before donating Drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate Eat iron rich foods- red meats, fish, poultry or liver, beans, iron-fortified cereals, raisins and prunes. Drinking orange juice or some other beverage containing Vitamin C with you meal before donating can sometimes more than double your iron intake. Avoid fatty foods, such as hamburgers, fries, or ice cream before donating. |
