Beginning January 31 and for the following week, our students and staff at Christ the King School will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week. It is our opportunity to recognize the truly excellent education our students experience every day.



520 students attend Christ the King and across the nation, nearly 2.4 million students attend Catholic schools. We don't really have to wonder too much why so many families choose Catholic schools for their students.

One reason is the high expectations for students-academically for sure, but really in many other ways as well. Here at CK, our students participate in art, music, technology, physical education and library skills classes along with having an excellent athletic program. All of these are in addition to an academic curriculum aligned to the State of Ohio Content Standards for math, language arts, social studies, science, and for grade eight, Spanish.

Another reason is surely the daily experience of faith. Here at Christ the King School, students begin the day with a reading from scripture and pray the Our Father together as a school. Then in the classrooms, students are encouraged to share their special intentions with their classmates; they then pray as a class for these intentions. From there, the day progresses and students are reminded to treat one another with respect as the opportunities arise. Students practice love for one another based on the Catholic belief that we are each of us made in the image and likeness of God and therefore love one another. Students attend an all-school liturgy every week and hear a homily delivered by either their pastor, Fr. Bill, or the parish associate pastor, Fr. Dominic. These homilies are written especially for the children and focus on the challenges they face everyday in their young lives.

Our students are looking forward to Catholic Schools Week. I think they truly know how blessed they are to be part of a wonderful faith-based community called Christ the King and to be one of the 2.4 million students from across the nation to attend a Catholic school!
