Passover... A Jewish Feast? A Christian Feast?
Each Spring in the celebration of the Passover meal, the Jewish people commemorate their Passover from slavery to the land of freedom. Each Spring in the celebration of Easter, the Christian people commemorate their passing over from death into New Life in Jesus, the Paschal Mystery.
A model Jewish Passover Seder Service is not a full Jewish Passover Meal. It is an experience of leisurely dining, story telling, songs and prayers with the community of believers. It is a service that helps Christians see how our Story is rooted in the Story of the Jewish people. Jesus was a good Jew and celebrated the Passover near the time of his Passion, Death and Resurrection. As you take part in the Seder Service you will see the many similarities between the Passover and our Mass.
