Thoughts About Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament |
|
Monday and Tuesday of every week our parishioners are privileged to be able to spend time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in our Adoration Chapel.
Under the direction of Shirley and Bob Fulop and Patti Chryst, a dedicated group of parishioners have committed themselves to a specific hour each week. Others are available when called or are "drop-ins" who come at different times during their daily routines. I am one of those persons. Perhaps that's why I am writing this.
When I enter the chapel — seldom at the same hour — I see those committed for that time respectfully engaged in prayer, either by reading or praying silently in their own words, to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Over the course of time, I have seen men and women in business clothes and some in medical garb and others in more casual attire who come in for short visits, obviously taking time from their employment to show their respect.
I admire them for this because I know that, even though we are reminded weekly in the bulletin of this opportunity, it is easy to let the privilege of a visit here slip by because no one is prodding us to do it and also because the demands on our time often cause us to forget it.
As the sun comes through the stained glass windows behind the Monstrance holding the Sacred Host and the blue vigil lights flicker in their stands on either side of it, I think of how blest Christ the King parishioners are to have this opportunity to honor Our Lord and express our thanksgiving and be able to place our petitions before Him in such a personal way.
