One of the hermits from the early days of the church approached St. Anthony of the Desert about a problem that plagued him. The hermit said, “O, holy one, I have great difficulty with my prayer – when I sit in my cell and pray, instead of my thoughts focusing on Almighty God, my thoughts wander all over the place. I cannot concentrate. I am sure that I must be wicked and there is probably no hope for me if I cannot even keep my thoughts from wandering away from God. Can you help me?
