First Week of Advent 11-27-2009

The season of Advent is here. Advent means "coming." God does the coming; we do the waiting. There are several great websites that may help in making this Advent even more spiritually fulfilling.

"The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise."

"You will see the Son of Man coming."

He comes as a human being. He comes overflowing with friendship, intimacy, mutuality, service and faithful love for us. He comes to make us realize the depth of our humanness and he importance of our actions. He comes to Bethlehem, the "House of Bread." He comes to satisfy the deepest desires of every human being.

Common things that surround us can point to something deeper.

Why not use them to turn our hearts and minds to peace and a few moments of prayer.

Consider: A traffic light

| When we hit every red light this season... as we STOP... we can take the opportunity to reflect: "What is my deepest desire this Christmas?" What needs to stop in my life, to let the love of Christ more into my heart? Where do I need to slow down so as to be more attentive to Christ, others, family, friends, and my parish?

These are wonderful days before us - please be sure to join us for Evening Prayer on Wednesday, in church at 7:30 p.m. Take the time - you need it and God needs you.

Have a great week...
