We Are Called to be Responsible 10-26-2008 |
|
What we are is God's gift to us and what we become is our gift to God. God has blessed all of us with a lot of good things. He gave us good parents, brothers and sisters, friends and relatives, good teachers and a good education, enough wealth, good opportunities and the best facilities.
We live in a country that has access to all the modern facilities in the world. It has the potency to make all our dreams come true. Look around and see the difficulties of people in other countries. Thousands die every day due to war, poverty and natural calamities. Thousands are there as homeless and orphans. They are always under threat. They lack good health and good education. Though they wish to have many good things, they cannot.
Think, how responsibly do we handle the best things we have in this country? Are we successful in changing our situations and personal lives to a better one? How much could we contribute to make better our family, our parish and society? Does the nation progress because of our effort or are we simply enjoying the fruits of the hardships of our ancestors and others?
We are called to be responsible managers of all what we have today. Whatever we have, they all are talents or gifts from God. If God gives us talents, he also gives grace in abundance to use them wisely. We must be able to multiply everything we have, and give it back several fold to God, as our gift. God wants us to be productive in the use of all what we have. The servant in the parable of talents lost all what he had for being lazy and irresponsible. To be appreciated and entrusted more by God, we need to be determined to work hard and be productive for our well-being and others.
Can we simply ignore the great visions and strong determinations and the hardships of our forefathers that made this country great and leading one among the world nations? Do we have any right to be lazy here?
"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices."
— President Harry S. Truman
